Spider Baby the musical. A horror rock show guaranteed to titillate and disturb. Based on the cult classic by Jack Hill (Foxy Brown, Coffey) Spider Baby the musical tells the story of the Merrye family. Each member suffers from the same degenerative mental disorder which causes a loss of impulse control. Some distant relatives want to institutionalize them and sell their land. Spider Baby the musical deals with the extreme measures the family takes to stay together.

Enrique Acosta (Producer, Co-director, Co-composer) Had I known way back in the early days of the 21st century the time, money, and friends I'd sacrifice to this project I might never have picked up that horror magazine: The one in which faqns of the original film waxed rhapsodic of Jack Hill's first movie. But I did and there is no turning back.
I, like som many before, fell in love with the strange tale of the Merryes. But my obsession went further. I really thought I was writing a concept album though much to my surprise it became a musical. But I could not do it alone. My musical ability was too limited. So with the help of some friends the vision was later realized and staged. But for some reason it was not enough. The strange obsession of mine had to be shared outside of my little world and we had to tour. For no other reason beyond your entertainment I have suffered and burned bridges and destroyed lives. And I still can not stop.

Helen Acosta (Producer, Co-director, Musical Director) Spider Baby turned my husband into a playwright. Since his first draft of this musical he has written and produced 4 original plays and he continues to workshop others. However, Spider Baby, our little 5 year old, continues to be his favorite child. Over the years, the baby has helped him grow as a writer, producer and director. Enrique and I have both done projects alone in the past, each of us directing or acting, but we have learned that we are better together. As a result, I'm the Mom in this "Mom and Pop" production. I got to dust off my music training, remember everything I ever learned about blocking and I've found that this little baby has helped me remember how much I love directing. Now I have completely embraced this baby that began as Enrique's terrifying little love child.

Original Spiderbaby Creator, Jack Hill.

MY WAY TO THE PHENOMENOLOGY OF SPIDER BABY
By Jack Hill

People sometimes ask me how I came up with the idea for what eventually became the film, Spider Baby.

As I recall, the basic story came to me pretty much all in a burst of inspiration -- a rather smoky burst of inspiration, most likely; it was the sixties, after all, and I was just out of college -- and I wrote the entire script in less than a week. The whole project was in my mind nothing more than an effort to create a low-budget horror film that would entertain the drive-in movie crowd for a summer or two and then disappear forever, like so many films of its genre.

If I had any artistic pretensions at all, they were surely nothing more than the enjoyment
of making the bizarre seem ordinary, and the ordinary, threatening.
Today, I'm as astonished as anyone that my little movie turned out to be a perennial classic of sorts, a certified "cult film," with generations of fans -- and critics -- watching it over and over again, constantly discovering new details and values that I myself was hardly aware of at the time.
But it wasn't until recently, when I learned that some of the most avid fans of the movie were young teen-age girls, that I realized the true appeal of Spider Baby to its fans: a portrayal of unconditional love.

Cast of 2010

Cristofer Sanders (Peter) was born and raised in the quirky eclectic city of Austin, Texas, which helped foster his lifelong love of the arts and all things strange and bizarre. Having earned a B.F.A in Theater and and an M.A. in Psychology, he is excited to be performing with the cast of Spider Baby the Musical and exploring the macabre themes of deranged family dynamics. He can be seen as the one of the principle characters in the developing cult classic 'Beyond Lemuria' and as an interviewee in the History Channel's next season of 'The Nostradamus Effect'. As a resident of Los Angles for the past ten years, and Venice Beach in particular, Cristofer is appreciative of all the eccentrics, weirdoes, renegades, prodigies, and pioneers that continue to teach and inspire him, and finds gratitude and happiness in living the dream, and dreaming to live
Lindsey Ahern (Shlocker) grew up performing for family and friends, knowing that this was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. The fire she had burning for acting grew stronger and
stronger and drove her all the way from Northern California to Hollywood, where she continues to feed it. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts helped to fuel that fire. Lindsey sincerely thanks
Enrique and Helen Acosta, her wonderful family and friends, and her beautiful girlfriend; none of this would have been possible without any of you. “Thank you all for giving me oxygen”.

Jose L. Hernandez (Ralph) There is a fine distinction between that which is known and that which we think we know. Jose sometimes can't make out the difference. It's one of the reasons he is an actor. There's nothing like being someone else's meat puppet.
